Goodmorning #fediverse!
As of today you can apply to my former job! ๐๐ https://www.mamacash.org/en/vacancy-it-systems-network-engineer
Think selfhosted servers, IaaC (Ansible) virtualization (KVM, Ceph, Debian, Ubuntu), FOSS apps (Zimbra, Nextcloud, Rocketchat), and Linux Mint desktops.
Are you a #foss and #linux enthusiast AND a #feminist? And are you based around #Amsterdam? Apply before Feb 23!
Mama Cash is the oldest feminist fund in the world. They support womenโs, girlโs and trans groups all over the world. ๐
Also, most of the users understand and support the choice for #FOSS, but still hate the daily drama that comes from working fulltime on Linux systems in a world that works solely with Msft. Think daily issues over crashed LibreOffice documents.
On the other hand, it is REALLY cool that this whole organization works with foss! Just expect some.. unique issues to solve. ๐
Ok last part: the people you'll work with are the kindest hardworking people you'll meet, especially my former coworker. โค๏ธ
@Gina Why did you end up leaving?
@moritzheiber weird I just typed out a whole answer and now it's gone.
After 3.5 years it was time for something new. Plus the migration was a lot, so it's good for someone fresh to comes in. Also, I'm not a hardcore engineer, I prefer a spot between the business and IT.
@Gina Makes sense, thank you!
@Gina Sounds like a nice job, but: what are you doing in the future then? ๐
@Gina I wonโt even count the crashes and obscurities I experience every day while being forced to work with M$ ๐๐
@Gina I also have a hardware variant of this: In Dec some stupid cut my DSL copper cable and I lived 4 days on mobile data before the DSL connection came back without further notice. Then again two days later while I had my weekly conference with the customer the connection broke down again. 10 minutes later I got a phone call from a service guy: โHey, I have just measured out your DSL line, itโs working fine again!โ ๐Thank you... ๐
@Gina so you actually accept man?
@BollerwagenPicard Of course. You just have to be a feminist.
@Gina So they use Linux Mint?
@posrev As desktop OS, yes. *Linux Mint Mate.
@Gina Linux Mint Cinnamon was the first Linux distro I used 4 years ago. I am still a newbie really.
@patric should be a job requirement everywhere :p
@Gina good mental health for everybody, respect and tolerance, should be a requrement everywhere ๐ But yeah I just saw now that it's an Feminist Fund, so yeah ๐ "Mama Cash" obviously, but I thought more it was something like work for mamas ๐ So also man and whatever exists today can work there, just feminism is the ideology behind. Got it ๐
Btw my job title used to be 'IT Officer', they've upped the technical aspect of the job by a lot, but I'm not sure what happened to the management tasks that were on my plate as well. Think writing a yearly IT plan, coordinating IT projects, lifecycle mgmt, budget mgmt, etc. My guess is that that will still be on your plate as well, but that's to be expected in a small organisation.
On the plus side, you get a lot of freedom and responsibility to really build something cool and impactful.
