@Gina Gab is banned by most of the fediverse. Even though it's built on Mastodon, I don't think they explicitly advertise that fact.
Politics, Gab.
@Gina As I tooted just before, how would this affect Mastodon? Gab has nothing to do with the fediverse as it's been blocked and isolated by pretty much every instance out there.
Politics, Gab.
@pm ah sorry I had to edit a CW, that's why it appeared deleted. Well that's good, I didn't know it was a heavily changed version of Mastodon, I thought they still ran the same tech with all the same updates.

@Gina
🤦♂️
irrelevant uspol, -
@Gina Probably not much. None of us are associated with them, and most people understand that anyone can make a website; either they're technical enough to understand what's going on or non-technical enough to think that all websites are made in Chrome – in neither case does blame fall upon Mastodon.
irrelevant uspol, -
@wizzwizz4 @Gina people tend to conflate mastodon instances together or so I’ve heard

@Hyolobrika @Gina True – but Gab doesn't brand itself as one. It never has, apart from the brief period after its software migration where it was trying to be the “biggest Mastodon instance” by inflating its statistics (which only lasted until about a week after half the Fediverse had cut it off). Iirc, Gab actually doesn't federate at all any more (though I don't follow it much, so that might've changed).
Politics, Gab.
@Gina Afaik they forked Mastodon or something like that, but even so, why would that impact Mastodon in a negative light? It's software, like the Tor Browser or any browser for that matter. If Trump was using Internet Explorer, it wouldn't matter because that browser has hit rock bottom a long time ago. It can't get any worse XD
Politics, Gab.
@wonderingdane ah true, I didn't know it was forked and changed. Although it would be a shame that if Mastodon were ever to go mainstream, Trump would be the reason behind it.
Politics, Gab.
@Gina Well, at least it becomes mainstream eh?
Politics, Gab.
@Gina I too thought it was still federated, so that means many others may be uninformed. My issue is if uninformed tech *journalists* (of which there are many) mention Mastodon in the same article/story, it will muddle things more.
Politics, Gab.
@Gina They've been pretty well segregated from the fediverse, so it really shouldn't be an issue.
Politics, Gab.
@Gina
Fediverse tools are almost freesoftwares
They can be used and modified by everyone even these people are stupid
An example North Korea developed its own linux distribution
Politics, Gab.
@theDarky I thought that was the Hannah Montana distro.
Politics, Gab.
@Gina it is widely defederized / banned and known to be full of nazis. I hope people report correctly that every instance runs on their own servers
re: Politics, Gab.
@Gina Changes very little. They can all worship at the altar of idiocy and violent overthrow all they want.
In fact: Keep doing it. It'll give the intelligence community an easier time of finding idiots who want to spark violence.
Politics, Gab.
@Gina
Gab is not federated any more
Politics, Gab.
@Gina we do moderate collectively mastodon,, keep it clean :-)

@Gina
Holy hell I made the mistakes of clicking that link. This subreddit is a cesspool.
re: Politics, Gab.
@Gina here's hoping they get sued by Trump for stealing his shit, and by Twitter for violating their TOS and all parties get tied up in a years long exhausting and expensive legal battle that no side will win. ;)
Politics, Gab.
@Gina they don't federate anymore, having the same API and being a fork is hardly something that Mastodon can be blamed for
