Ready for a nerd update?
My challenge of the week is to find a framework that measures where our IT dept is (as-is) and where we want it to go (to-be). How should we manage our IT so that we can best support org goals? What are our evaluation criteria and how can we measure our progress?
I'm looking into #ITgovernance frameworks, and what would work best for a small org. Stuff like IT Matury Models and ITIL.
So far I really enjoy taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture. 🤓
@Gina Is this about what management approach you're talking, or more about the specific tools that are out there that help you achieve your goals?
I'm asking, because if this is about tools, I'd be very curious to know what you have been evaluating.
@loke this is more about governance, stategy and management. Basically right now we feel like we're just doing whatever falls on our plate that week. We'd like to set up a more structural approach so that we can set up indicators, plan ahead and assess how we're doing.
@Gina I see. May I ask how big the team is? Because we have the same problems in a team of 3, and I can only imagine what it would be like in anything larger.
@loke we're a team of two, supporting an international org of 55 people. No one has ever bothered to map our organisational processes (probably since these are constantly evolving), let alone it's IT alignment.
It sounds boring AF but I really enjoy doing this. I think I'd be a much better IT consultant than sysadmin tbh.
