"In this PR I want to add a new input mode to Helix. "Height-Turns-Growth". Motivation for this is that another PR by Chris_G that allows Helices and spirals to be created with the same underlying command."

"With this functionality the Helix tool is a perfect generalization of the revolution tool. And can be used to make as well revolutions, helices and flat spirals. "

Thanks to + good decision-making by both the :blender: @blender and :freecad: @FreeCAD projects to integrate it - we get all the good things 😻

Take this elegant little hack: Import the Part geometry of a FreeCAD document into

Ridiculously simple! <good vibes>

I decided to learn a little about Freecad and my first project was a simple Latin cross to hang from my car rear-view mirror. If you're interested the freecad file and exported stl file is in the repo.

FreeCAD Part or PartDesign? Two elementary tools for engineering products - Part & PartDesign. But where is the elementary difference? Here is a short clip (in german language). But the difference can be seen.

@humulus @FreeCAD Which version of #freecad are you using? chrisb mentioned something like that in 2019. A possible solution followed his post and I've checked the latest bug ticket in this thread and it's closed: forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic

And you're welcome to open up a thread at the forum yourself of course !

I love @FreeCAD but sometimes things like this make me sad. What's the point of a DatumPoint that can't be defined by the intersection of a DatumLine and a DatumPlane?

I've never used Tinkercad. While it has good rep as an easy-to-use app for beginners, it's owned by Autodesk, a corporation that has a very bad reputation. So, you never know when they might decide to pull the plug or change the terms of service like they did with Fusion 360.

I also tend to avoid web services whenever I can. If you no longer have access to the Internet, for whatever length of time, you're screwed...

2 years ago, I swore my contribution days to :freecad: were over... But tonight, I closed 8 issues on the FreeCAD-library Github repo.

They were easy issues to close, many were years old and long fixed or no longer relevant. I couldn't understand why they hadn't been, and I still had write access, so why not...

@bsharitt
What software do you currently use to "mangle existing designs"?

For experienced CAD users like myself, 3D print designs found online are often frustrating because they're overwhelmingly shared in STL format only. It's a poor format to edit in CAD because it describes a polygon mesh. In CAD, STL, OBJ, AMF & 3MF are lossy output formats, not meant to import back for edits.

When big edits are desired, it's often more judicious to use a polygonal modeler like .
