Early congratulations! I have three grandsons now. I also didn't know how to take it. The hardest part was what will he call me. I finally decided I liked Papa but the baby daddy decided that was going to be his father's name and was off the table for me. Unwilling to come to terms with a different grandfather name, I decided they will call me by my regular nickname like everyone else. That leads people to think that I'm a step of some sort but I don't care.

My oldest was born a month early and they said he would be in the Neonatal ICU for a few weeks before he was born. The biggest concern was lung development. They determined he was breathing fine and he was out in a few hours. I guess caution and preparation are a good thing. Hope all is well with mom and baby.
@DistroJunkie this one’s a bit more complicated- they’ve got to withdraw the baby from methadone :-/
@Devils_Rancher
That explains the hell on wheels. Poor baby. Hope she does well.
@DistroJunkie They have a protocol, & it happens a lot, so I imagine it’ll be fine, but the baby’s going to be uncomfortable for a couple weeks.

I'm having a hard time with drugs these days. They are so addictive, much more so than when we were young, it's almost impossible to be a recreational user. My oldest daughter hooked up with a guy that had been prison and he got her hooked on meth. Their relationship ended when he tried to kill her, police were involved, he went back to the pen, and my daughter, having inherited her dads strong will, quit cold turkey. Happy ending to a bad situation.
@DistroJunkie yikes- we could trade war stories for sure. I’m clean & sober 20 years, now. I feel like I’ve lived 2 different lives.
@Devils_Rancher
You shared that you reached the 20 year mark here. Great achievement. I've been blessed with an unusually strong will and have been able to quit tobacco and drugs cold turkey and enjoy an occasional libation.
@Devils_Rancher
Baby here? Doing OK, I hope, considering.
@DistroJunkie yep, things are good. Baby was a healthy 8 lbs 7 oz & is nursing. Mom’s in pain from c-section, but is recovering.
@Devils_Rancher
Good news!
@DistroJunkie We’re relieved, happy & ready for an evening of gazing into the glowing rectangle.
@Devils_Rancher
I like that. I'm stealing it.
@DistroJunkie So far, this one’s a girl, but mom is hell on wheels, so I’m not sure what difference that makes, but I had an easier time with my daughter than my son who got moody & clammed up at puberty. I think she’ll be in new-natal ICU for a couple weeks, so not sure how much we’ll get to see her at first.
