I think I will get my grandma on Ubuntu or Mint. The only thing she really does is printing things and surfing the web anyway
@AaronTheIssueGuy Ubuntu would be a better fit for her given it's simplicity. It's not like she's gonna be browsing the Mint repos for interesting programs to install. Heck, even better, why not PopOS!?
@drowned I thought I’d go with Mint and cinnamon desktop themed as close to windows as possible. Getting used to new designs is hard at her age
@AaronTheIssueGuy ahh, so she is familiar with Windows then. Yeah, I suppose Mint with Cinnamon would be a good choice then. Hell, you could probably just get an exact Windows theme going. Unless the theme scene has died lately. I remember being able to setup my Linux distros as very similar to OS X and Windows.
@drowned there are quite a few themes that try to replicate the Windows look on cinnamon, I think that will work for her.
@AaronTheIssueGuy great project! Would have liked to try it with my grandpa, he was very interested in computers (used to be an engineer)... unfortunately he passed away shortly before I became involved with FOSS and Ubuntu :-(
@AaronTheIssueGuy great initiative! I had quite good results with having my mother use Ubuntu on a netbook I got her back at around 2012. It worked great and was light enough to be quite fast for her expectations. She eventually got a Macbook Pro, but I was happy to hear her main reason to do so was that "it has a bigger screen." (no fault of the OS!)
Creating a familiar interface with (maybe) #XFCE could be a good starting point.
